Aulus Vitellius was a Roman emperor who ruled for eight months in AD 69, following the quick succession of emperors Galba and Otho. He attempted to rally public support by honoring and imitating the popular emperor Nero. Vitellius was originally from Campania and rose to prominence through his connections with Tiberius and Caligula. His reign was marked by a year of civil war, known as the Year of the Four Emperors.
